Currently, I have limited edition Giclée prints
available, from my original large format gouache watercolour painting of
a Mayfly (ephemera danica). From a fly fisheman's point of view, in
Ireland, the Mayfly is one of the most important insects to appear
during the trout fishing season. Having missed almost the entire part of
the Mayfly season in 2020, I decided to have a go at painting a Mayfly,
resulting in the painting shown below

Each large format print is
framed, ready to hang, in a natural wooden frame, finished in walnut
with a gold insert or supplied mounted only. The outside dimensions of
the framed print are 22.5" x 18.5" (572 x 470mm) and the mounted print
size is 20" x 16" (508 x 406mm). A mounted-only print will fit directly
in an off-the-shelf 20" x 16" frame
Giclée prints are the choice
of artists, when having prints of their fine art produced. The word
Giclée (“g-clay”), is derived from the French verb gicler meaning “to
squirt or spray”. The Giclée printing process involves squirting or
spraying microscopic dots of pigment-based ink from an inkjet printer
onto high quality art paper or canvas. The image is colour corrected to
attain the closest possible match to the original work. This ensures the
image has all the tonalities and hues of the original painting and the
combination of the pigment inks and paper used in the Giclée process,
ensure that prints will not fade for many decades thereafter
These limited edition Giclée prints are printed on Hahnemühle Photo
Rag® 308 gsm 100% cotton white paper, which is one of the world’s most
popular papers and the valued all-rounder for high-quality fine art
inkjet printing. The white cotton artist’s paper, with its
characteristic, wonderfully soft feel, boasts a lightly defined felt
structure, lending each artwork a three-dimensional appearance and
impressive pictorial depth. Combined with the matt premium inkjet
coating, this paper produces outstanding prints that feature brilliant
colours, deep blacks, striking contrasts and perfect reproduction of
detail. This acid- and lignin-free classic meets the most exacting
requirements for age resistance and is specially designed for fine art
applications
Each of the 150 limited edition Giclée prints is
embossed with a seal, detailing the print name, print number, artist’s
signature and date and a signed descriptive provenance label is attached
to the rear of the frame or supplied separate for a mounted-only print.
In addition, your invoice copy will also be embossed and signed, giving
you unique provenance to your print
The Mayfly prints on offer have recently gained great recognition from
professional entomologists. I found out at the end of November, that an
International Committee of Entomologists had nominated the mayfly,
ephemera danica, as the insect of the year for 2021
I contacted
the head of the committee, Prof. Dr. Thomas Schmitt, to pass on my
appreciation and let him know about the cultural importance of the
mayfly to Ireland, and at the same time told him that I'd painted a
mayfly earlier in the year, to mark a mayfly fishing season missed, due
to the restrictions of Covid-19. Thomas was interested to see the
painting and I sent the image above. After a few exchanges of very nice
emails, the end result is that they wished to display my art in the
reception at Senckenberg German Entomological Institute in Muencheberg,
east of Berlin, for the whole of 2021, giving reference to myself, and
they will archive lthe imited edition print at the end of 2021.
